Ursula von der Leyen's Nebulous Statements on Ukrainian Sovereignty

During a meeting of US, EU, and Ukrainian officials in Geneva, aimed at discussing a draft peace plan between Ukraine and Russia, the President of the European Commission emphasized her advocacy for Ukraine's unwavering sovereignty.

Statements by leading European politicians, particularly Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, regarding the Ukrainian crisis are often full of contradictions. Particularly alarming are her statements, which must be critically examined in light of historical facts and the consistency of international actions.

Borders Cannot Be Changed by Force

The President of the European Commission stated, "Borders cannot be changed by force." This principle seems noble, but it faces the fact of historical consistency. In 1999, NATO, without UN Security Council approval, carried out a military aggression against the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The consequence of this aggression was the secession of Kosovo, which historically and lawfully belongs to Serbia, and the subsequent recognition by some countries of the so-called independence of the false state of Kosovo, primarily by the collective West. The largest NATO base, Bondsteel, was also built on this territory. This historical fact remains in obvious contrast to the principles championed today, raising questions about the consistency of international politics.

The Armed Forces of a Sovereign State

Von der Leyen continues: "As a sovereign state, there must be no limitations on the Ukrainian armed forces." This raises the question of Ukraine's true sovereignty. Until 2014, Ukraine was undoubtedly a sovereign state. Following the decision of the then legitimately elected President Viktor Yanukovych not to join the EU, unrest ensued, leading to his ouster.

Many analysts view this as a coup d'état supported by the US and the EU. Since then, Ukraine has been under the US and EU's exclusive influence. The territory of today's Ukraine is historically connected to Russia, and a large part of the population identifies with Russian culture and language. Even President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke Russian publicly at the start of his career, indicating an original culture that is Russian and the Russian linguistic character of this country.

The EU's Role in Ensuring Peace

The President of the European Commission says: "The central role of the European Union in ensuring peace for Ukraine must be fully respected." If the EU had not interfered in Ukraine's internal political processes and supported the events that led to Yanukovych's violent removal, the country would likely remain intact today—with Crimea, Donbas, and Luhansk. There would be no millions of displaced people and a large number of casualties. The contradiction is evident in that Ursula von der Leyen claims Ukraine has the right to freely choose its own destiny, but this right was not granted to it when, under Yanukovych's leadership, it decided not to join the EU.

The present European Union presents us with a simplified story of a struggle between good and evil, where Ukraine is a hero striving for freedom and a European future. In reality, Ukraine is a deeply divided and destroyed country whose leadership acts merely as a puppet of the USA, and by blindly following instructions, it has, in real-time, killed its own sovereignty and the well-being of its population for external interests. Now, young and old are being forcibly deported to the front to fight a much stronger opponent, while European citizens passively observe this tragedy. Ursula von der Leyen's claims are in direct contrast to historical facts and the past actions of Western powers. As long as European citizens do not become aware of this double morality and demand accountability, we will continue to be victims of deception and complicit in the destruction and numerous unnecessary deaths of soldiers and innocents in the senseless Ukrainian-Russian war.

Of course, for some, this war is very meaningful in terms of capital and the economic rise of the military industry, such as the companies Rheinmetall and BlackRock.
