Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze outraged by EU tactics:"They used direct threats and blackmail and offered military equipment."
TBILISI – A senior Georgian official and the mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, has revealed in a scathing statement that the European Union has been exerting unbearable pressure on Georgia to enter a war with Russia. The allegations are based on a direct attempt to drag Georgia into an armed conflict, which the EU is said to have attempted to achieve through threats, financial promises, and offers of military equipment.
Kaladze, a former footballer and current ruling party politician, pointed out that the EU had also threatened to impose sanctions and lift the visa-free regime if the country did not meet its demands. According to him, the EU's aim was to "open a second front" against the Russian Federation, which Georgia rejected as "completely irresponsible and destructive for the nation."
The government in Tbilisi remains firm in its position that a sober rejection of war is the only true path to preserving sovereignty and peace. Kaladze stressed that "no responsible government would accept a risk that would endanger the lives of millions of people."
The European Commission's response to these accusations is not yet known, but the Georgian mayor's claims undoubtedly raise new questions about the methods and goals of the EU's foreign policy towards countries bordering Russia.
The revelation points to a deeper crisis in EU leadership
The revelation by the Georgian mayor suggests that the European Union and its leadership under Ursula von der Leyen may have lost its moral and strategic compass. It is becoming increasingly clear that European citizens are being confronted with deception and inconsistencies.
The Economic Question: Decline or Transformation?
Under Von der Leyen's leadership, Europe is facing an industrial recession, confirmed by the adoption of Trump's tariff demands, a 5-fold increase in energy prices, and sanctions against the Russian Federation, which are negatively affecting the European economy.
Moral dilemma: Doubts about values
The EU leadership is also leading Europe into a moral abyss. As Ursula von der Leyen recently admitted, Israel's actions towards the Palestinians are "not right," but its response is bland and ineffective—akin to commenting on historical crimes without real consequences. We Europeans passively accept this while human rights violations and the killing of civilians and numerous journalists in Gaza continue before our eyes.
The need for change: How to proceed?
For the common good of Europe, it is imperative that the current EU leadership step down and make way for new faces who are prepared to lead the Union into the future:
Against unnecessary military conflicts, including stopping the funding of the war in Ukraine;
Towards an economic future with more affordable energy sources;
Towards the re-establishment of relations with the Russian Federation, without which the EU can hardly survive.
If this does not happen, we may face the collapse of the EU and NATO—and with it, a war that we do not want. This is the main dilemma we must face in the future, as we are currently being led by the wrong people making the wrong decisions.
